Early Life

Rakim Mayers was born in New York City in 1988. When he was 9, he moved to Pennsylvania and learned to rap from his elder brother. When Mayers was in his early teens, his father and brother died which inspired him to consider rapping seriously.

However, poverty led him to sell drugs, and he lived with his mother for a short period in New York City after which he moved to Manhattan.



Rocky released his debut single “Purple Swag” through his A$AP crew in 2011. The track soon became a street anthem in New York City. Rocky gained wide attention when his single “Peso” was leaked online.

The track was widely received and even received airplay on the high-profile Hot 97 New York radio station. Upon the release of his mixtape Live. Love. A$AP, he signed a $3 million record deal with RCA Records and Polo Grounds Music.

He eventually went on to start his label A$AP Worldwide, with A$AP Yams.

ASAP Rocky has released two albums, one mixtape, twenty-one singles, seven promotional singles and seventeen music videos. His debut album Live.Love.A$AP peaked on several charts all over the world and was also certified Platinum by RIAA. The total album sales came up to $518,000.

He released his second album At.Long.Last.A$AP In 2015, which also became famous all around the world and was certified Gold by RIAA. Both albums peaked at #1 on the Billboard 200.

His singles include Peso, Goldie, Fuckin’ Problems, Wild for the Night, Fashion Killa, Lord Pretty Flacko Jodye 2, Cocky and Bad Company.

Rocky has also been featured in several other singles including Yao Ming, Street Knock, Hands on the Wheel, Yellow Tape, Work, Choppa, Pretend, Good for You, Summer Bummer, No Limit and Pick it up.

Rocky has collaborated with several artists like Smoke DZA, Lloyd Banks, David Banner, Chris Brown, Justin Timberlake, Chief Keef, Jaden Smith and Juicy J and has guest appeared in their tracks including 4 Loko, Make it Stack, Yao Ming, T.K.O., Superheroes, Breakfast and Freaky.

Rocky is also a record producer under the pseudonym Lord Flacko.


Apart from music, Rocky has also tried his luck in business ventures. In 2011, Rocky signed a $3 million record deal with Sony Music Entertainment.

In 2013, Rocky released his A$AP merchandise brand in collaboration with his fashion designer friend Raf Simons. He also signed a contract for worldwide representation with William Morris Endeavour.

In 2016, Guess collaborated with Rocky and released a line called GUE$$, which was inspired by Rocky’s admiration for the brand’s vintage 90s clothing that he wore while growing up.

Films and TV shows

He made his movie debut in the movie “Dope”, which was released in the year 2015. He also guest-appeared in other movies like Jeremy Scott: The People’s Designer, Zoolander 2 and Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping.

He was also cast for the TV show “Animals” for one of the episodes, and he made a cameo appearance in The Eric Andre Show.

He has also voiced for the video game “Marvel Avengers Academy”, for the Falcon role.
