Julie Andrews never fails to keep her audience entertained in every movie that she is a part of. Mary Poppins is a family movie that can be enjoyed by children and parents and is also the first on my list.

2.    The Sound of Music (1965)

This movie is a beautiful musical on the story of an aspiring nun named Maria (Julie Andrews) who is sent to the house a former naval officer Captain Georg von Trap (Christopher Plummer) who is also a widower as a governess to look after his seven very mischievous children. The children hate all the previous governesses and are mean to Maria as well but her jovial and kind self, wins them and the captain over and the two starts to fall in love with each other in spite of the captain being engaged to be married.

Sound of Music is an amazing movie that portrays the love and importance of family as Maria brings them all closer. If you are looking for a family movie filled with music, laughter and love then this is the one for you.

3.    The Princess Bride (1987)

Buttercup is still in love with her lover who died five years ago while at sea and did not want to marry the prince. Will her heart change?

4.    Home Alone (1990)

By the time they realise that Kevin is missing they are already in Paris, and all the flights have been delayed or full. Kevin, on the other hand, had been wishing for everyone to disappear, wakes up to find himself alone thinking his wish had been granted. The boy spots two burglars who plan to rob his home on Christmas Eve and sets up traps to keep them away.

5.    Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (2001)

He is taken to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry where he meets his partners in crime Harmoine Granger (Emma Watson) and Ron Weasley (Rupert Grint). At Hogwarts, Harry realises that he has many enemies and not all can be trusted.

6.    Night at the Museum (2006)

He has been explained everything about his work except the part where the Museum and everything in it come to life at night. This film is a great way to spend an evening with your children without them talking and being naughty and hence makes my list of Family movies.

7.    Enchanted (2007)

She is to marry Prince Edward (James Marsden), but his stepmother Queen Narissa (Susan Sarandon) tricks Gisele and sends her away to the human world. Gisele meets a lawyer named Robert (Patrick Dempsey) who lives with his daughter. They take her in, and she slowly starts to fall in love with him. The Prince follows Gisele to the human world, and when the Queen finds out she is furious and ventures into the human world as well, finds Gisele and feeds her a poisonous apple. Who will be able to wake up the Princess with a kiss, The Prince or Robert?

8.    Marley & Me (2008)

Jennifer (Jennifer Aniston) and John Grogan (Owen Wilson) adopt a puppy after their marriage to start a small family and name him Marley. Marley is a lazy but mischievous dog who becomes a vital part of their lives even after they have three kids. Marley drives everyone crazy and testing their patience many times but also teaches the family a lot of life lessons before his time is up. This is one of the best family movies to watch and my personal favourite.

9.    Hachi: A Dog’s Tale (2009)

Professor Parker Wilson (Richard Gere) is on his way home when he finds a puppy at the railway station and decides to take it home. The puppy is an Akita breed, and after many days of waiting for the owner, Wilson chooses to keep Hachiko. The two develop a special relationship where the dog goes to drop Wilson every day to the train station and waits till he returns and the two come back together. But one day Wilson does not return.

10.  Maleficent (2014)

Maleficent is a Disney movie that depicts the side of the evil from the most famous fairytale ‘The Sleeping Beauty’. It is a whole new take on the ancient perfect fairytale that shows how love can conquer all.
