BitTorrent Review

bittorrent review

BitTorrent is a protocol which supports peer to peer online file sharing over the internet. BitTorrent Inc. is responsible for the development of this protocol. The company also has its own two torrent client applications such as BitTorrent and uTorrent. BitTorrent is the first and the original torrent client application. Later, other torrent clients joined the bandwagon such as qBittorrent, Transmission, Deluge, etc.

It was released in the year 2001, and in 2006, BitTorrent Inc. purchased uTorrent. Since then BitTorrent client is often referred as a rebranded version of uTorrent. It is Ad-supported fermium application. Be aware while you install this software on your machine since the installation file comes with a bundled third-party software, and you may wish to uncheck all.

Our verdict

Added features in paid version

Regular updates and bug fixes

 Too much of Ads

Application size and resource usage

Initially, the most significant problem with any torrent client was memory bloat, and that was the reason other applications came up. As of today, BitTorrent does not hog on your computer resource, and even the installation size occupies less than a couple of megabytes.

User experience

Usually, people have high hopes for this application since it belongs to the torrent creator itself. But frankly speaking, there are better alternatives in the market such as qBittorrent, Deluge, etc. The interface is neat and clean but does throw up a lot of ads in its free version. It does have integrated search function.

With its paid version, you can stream instantly without waiting for the whole file to get downloaded. It is worth a mention that BitTorrent automatically adjusts bandwidth usage, based on your internet and network speed. This ensures faster delivery of file.

You get features such as prioritise seeding and leeching of files, IP filtering, IPv6 support, torrent creation tool, encryption, remote web access, RSS, Full proxy server support, etc. It is also available in 66 different languages.

Its paid version, BitTorrent Pro, does not have Ads and you get additional features such as malware & virus scan, HD media player and integrated file conversion option. The paid subscription will cost you $19.95 yearly.

BitTorrent is available on all platforms which include Windows, Mac OS, Linux and Android platform.
