Early Life

Casey Owen Neistat was born in Gales Ferry, Connecticut, U.S. Neistat dropped out of his school when he was 17, and did not return to graduate.

Neistat had his first son when he was 17, with his girlfriend, Robin Harris. In 2005, Neistat married Candice Pool, but the marriage ended in annulment within a month. The couple, however, got back together later and married in 2013. Candice and Neistat have a daughter.


Before gaining celebrity status, Neistat has had a series of other jobs like a dishwasher at a restaurant and a short-order cook in Connecticut.

Filmmaking and YouTube

In 2001, Neistat began a career as a filmmaker. The breakthrough in his career came in 2003 when he released a three-minute film titled “iPod’s Dirty Secret,” criticizing Apple for not having a battery replacement program for their iPod line of portable media players. Neistat gained international exposure for this film and also attracted media attention.

He and his brother also produced a film series “Science Experiments” in 2004, which became popular and was eventually featured in Creative Time’s 59th Minute Program. His eight-episode television series “The Neistat Brothers” was purchased by HBO in 200 for under $2 million.

In 2008, Neistat was an executive producer of the movie “The Pleasure of Being Robbed.” The next year, he produced, wrote and starred in the movie “Daddy Longlegs.” He has also starred in the movie “Nerve,” which was released in 2016.

Neistat soon became a YouTube personality. He uploaded his first video on YouTube in 2010, about when and when not, to use the emergency brake cord on train cars in the New York City Subway.

Neistat has also directed several commercials. Some of the major clients include Samsung, Nike, Google, Finn Jewelry, J.Crew and Mercedez Benz.

Neistat has appeared on the video “Make it Count” for Nike which was directed by himself. The video soon went viral when it was posted on YouTube and was named “The Best Branding Story Ever Told” by Mashable’s Zoe Fox.


Casey Neistat is also famous for his philanthropic activities. On March 2017, Neistat along with other celebrities raised a whopping $1 million within 19 hours to help those facing starvation in Somalia.

He partnered with GoFundMe to raise money to support the injured victims and the families of those killed at an outdoor music festival in Las Vegas.

He also launched a charity water campaign in 2016 in partnership with Charity: Water, a nonprofit that provides clean and safe water to people in developing countries. The charity was launched with an aim to raise $5,000 but managed to raise $14,064 within just 24 hours.
