Colin Kaepernick, the American football quarterback who is currently a free agent, is worth $2 million as of 2018. The 30-year-old player became a nation-wide sensation after refusing to stand up for the U.S national anthem in the way of protest. He earned his significant income from NFL salary and other endorsement deals.

Early Life

Colin Rand Kaepernick was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. His birth mother was just 19 years old when Kaepernick was born, and she placed him for adoption.

Rick and Teresa Kaepernick adopted him, and he lived in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. Kaepernick attended John H. Pitman High School in Turlock, California, where he played football, baseball and basketball and got nominated for All-State selection in all three sports.

Kaepernick is known for his multiple tattoos including a Bible Verses, Praying hands and other phrases displaying his faith in God.

Although Kaepernick received numerous scholarship offers in baseball, he desperately wanted to play college football. Nevada was the only school that offered him a football scholarship, and he signed in 2006. When he played for the college team, he was named Western Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year twice in 2008 and 2010.

After his graduation, Kaepernick signed with XAM Sports and Entertainment. He moved to Atlanta, Georgia to train himself for the NFL Scouting Combine. In 2011, Kaepernick was selected by San Francisco 49ers in the second round of 2011 NFL Draft. He began his football career as a backup quarterback in 2011 and became a starter in the middle of 2012 season.

In 2014, Kaepernick signed a six-year contract with 49ers, worth $126 million, including $54 million in potential guarantees, and $13 million fully guaranteed. However, in 2017 he officially opted out of his contract with 49ers, and currently, he is a free agent.

He opted out of the deal over a year ago, and he’s only taken one of the official visits with any of the NFL’s 32 teams.

Colin Kaepernick became the only player in NCAA Division I FBS history to amass 10,000 passing yards and 4,000 rushing yards in a career. Currently, most of the team owners are scared to sign Kaepernick, afraid of the fan backlash.

The National Anthem Controversy

In the preseason game of 2016, Kaepernick was noticed sitting down during the playing of the U.S National Anthem “The Star-Spangled Banner” to show his protest against a country that oppresses black people and people of colour. He explained that it meant more than football. While many military veterans voiced support for Kaepernick, he was also voted the most disliked player in the NFL in 2016.
