Early Life

Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson was born in Santa Barbara, California. Perry attended the Paradise Valley Christian School in Arizona and Santa Barbara Christian school in California. She grew up listening to gospel music. She took vocal training lesson when she was 9. She began to play the guitar when she was 13 and started to perform the songs publicly that she wrote.

Katy married Russell Brand in 2010, and the couple filed for a divorce in 2012.

Career

Katy signed with Red Hill Records and released her debut album Katy Hudson in 2001, which became unsuccessful. Later, she moved to Los Angeles and signed a contract with Capitol Records in 2007 and released her second album Pop Rock in 2008 which became successful. Her numerous singles from her subsequent albums reached the top ten spot on various charts and remained there for many weeks, and soon, Perry rose to fame.

Some of her famous hits are California Gurls, Teenage Dream, Firework, Part of Me, Wide Awake. She became the first artist to reach one billion views on Vevo for her video songs Roar and Dark Horse.    

She has gone on various concert tours including Hello Katy Tour, Prismatic World Tour and Witness: The Tour.

As on date, Perry has won five American Music Awards, 14 People’s Choice Awards, 4 Guinness World Records, a Britt Award and a Juno Award.

Perry released an autobiographical documentary Katy Perry: Part of Me in 2012 and also voiced for animated movies Smurfette and The Smurfs series.

In 2010, she helped to build the Boys Hope/Girls Hope foundation shelter for youth in Baltimore, Maryland.

All profits from sales of her album The Gay Nineties Old Tyme Music: Daisy Bell, were donated to Little Kids Rock, which supports musical education in underprivileged elementary schools.
