Learning numbers and shapes play a significant role in Primary education as it makes the foundation of all the other concepts such as Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, etc.
The Cool Math Kids portal has crafted a few good activities called manipulatives to teach those concepts such as – Place Values, Ones, Tens, Number Line, Patterns or Shapes.
However, in this post, we will look into the manipulatives and brain teasers:
There are four types of activities possible in the Manipulatives section, namely, Ten Frame, Base Ten Blocks, Number Line, and Pattern Blocks.
Let’s see the ten frame activity for example:
You can start by choosing the frames of 5, 10, 20 or 100, or you can also choose to make your own frame.
Once you’re there, there are many other things to do. You can put objects in 1’s, 5’s, and 10’s, change colours of objects by using the tools provided on the left.
With the tools on the left, you can select the Keypad if you wish to do some calculations and stuff. You can also use the pencil and draw on the palette or frame.
In short, kids from 3 to 10 years of age are going to like spending time on it.
Well, who doesn’t like to ask & answer trivial questions, riddles, puzzles, or brain teasers!
There are some popular brain teasers that you can ask your child to solve. The ages-old matchsticks’ problem, connecting the nine dots using four lines, how many people in the family riddle, etc.
Over to you
Making sure that the child is learning with fun is a herculean task. Most kids just mug up stuff and answer questions in an assessment or test.
However, if we make sure to have a good routine of both offline and online learning, combine it with some physical activities, kids will definitely enjoy the time as well as get an understanding of basic math & science concepts.
