Aaquil Iben Shamon Brown, known by the stage name Slim Jxmmi and his little brother Khalif Malik Ibn Shaman Brown, also known by the stage name Swae Lee were born in Tupelo, Mississippi, U.S.

As their mother worked for the army, she was deployed in different states, and the family had to move several times from California to Mississippi to Maryland and finally settled down in Texas. When the two boys were in middle school, their mother left the army, and the family moved back to Mississippi.
The brothers met Jemiah Middlebrooks while playing at a local park and soon the trio formed a hip-hop band “Dem Outta St8 Boyz” in 2009. They also took up part-time jobs to meet the expense of the band.
When they began to focus more on music, they returned home in the late hours angering their mom, who later kicked them out of the house. The brothers stayed in their friend’s place and even started to spread their music to any parties.
They gained a local recognition after the release of their debut single “Party Animal” in 2010. The trio however dissolved with time, and the two brothers changed their group name to Rae Sremmurd.
In 2013, Rae Sremmurd signed to EarDrummers Entertainment and released their debut album StremmLife in 2015. The album was a commercial success and was their breakthrough and peaked at #5 on the US Billboard 200. The first week sales of the album were 49,000 copies and received positive reviews.
The album was also certified platinum in 2016. The duo has released two studio albums, three mixtapes, thirteen singles and 24 music videos. The singles include No Flex Zone, No type, Throw Some Mo, This Could be us, Black Beatles, Perplexing Pegasus and Powerglide.

Rae Sremmurd has also been featured in other artists’ singles like One Touch, Blasé, Perfect Pint, Pere, Love and Sativa.
Currently, the duo is working on their third studio album, and also both are working on their solo tracks.
