Simon Cowell is worth a whopping $550 million. He is widely recognised for his appearance as a judge on the British talent show series Pop Idol, The X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent, American Idol, and America’s Got Talent.

Early Life

Simon Philip Cowell was born in Lambeth, London and raised in Elstree, Hertfordshire. Cowell attended Radlett Preparatory School and the Dover College. He gained a GCE in Sociology from Windsor Technical College.


Simon Cowell began a career in the music industry from his father’s company EMI Music Publishing’s mail room. After failing to get a promotion, he quit the company and had a series of unsuccessful ventures including the formation of E&S music and Fanfare Records.

He eventually became A&R consultant and set up S Records, which was a success after he signed with Robson Green and Jerome Flynn, Five, Westlife and Teletubbies.

In 2001, Cowell became the judge of TV show Pop Idol and then the judge of American Idol in 2002. In 2004, Cowell became the judge of The X Factor, which was an instant success. Following the success of The Idol and The X Factor, Cowell, his company Syco and business partners developed a talent show.

America’s Got Talent was debuted in 2006, and Britain’s Got Talent was debuted in 2007 and Cowell appeared as a judge in both the shows. In 2015, he launched “La Banda”, a US TV show to find male singers to form the ultimate Latino Boy Band.

Cowell has also co-produced other talent shows including American Inventor, Celebrity Duets, Grease Is The Word, Rock Rivals, Red or Black and Food Glorious Food. He also partnered with YouTube in 2013, and launched a video sharing competition “The You Generation”.

Cowell is also the founder and chief executive of Syco, a British entertainment company.

Cowell is one of the most influential celebrities. In 2004 and 2010, Cowell was named one of the 100 most influential people in the world by Time magazine.

He was also ranked #41 on the list of “50 people who matter” in 2010 by New Statesman. In 2013, TV Guide named him at number 10 in their 2013 list of the 60 Nastiest Villains of All Time.

Cowell has also appeared in numerous films, and TV shows including The Simpsons, Scary Movie-3, Shrek 2, Who Wants to be a Millionaire?, Saturday Night Live and Live With Regis and Kelly.
