Sound Search for Google Play

Android users can use a handy widget by Google known as “Sound Search for Google Play.” This functionality was added to Google Assistant last year. With this widget, you can find the names of songs playing nearby. You can also buy identified songs on Google Play.

Otherwise, you can save identified songs to purchase later. Unfortunately, this function is Sound Search is only available in select countries, and it requires Android devices with version 4.0 and higher. You can add Sound Search to your device by following steps –

  • Launch the Google Play Store app
  • Search “Sound Search for Google Play”
  • Tap Install
  • Now touch and hold the home screen of your device
  • Tap widgets
  • Swipe right or scroll down until you see Sound Search. To move the widget, drag What’s this song?

You can identify a song if the song is playing on your device with its image on the screen. Just tap What’s this song? You can also use voice search and say, “OK Google, what song is this?”

Also, you can tap the Microphone and then ask, “what song is this?” Either way, it will work.

These days you are surrounded by intelligent devices such as Alexa and Google Home. They are your assistant, and it won’t be wrong to tell you that they will help big time in identifying any songs.

If the song is playing near you, then you can ask simply – what’s the name of this song or what is this song. Either way, you will get details about the song, and also it can add to your favorite library.

There are even other websites, such as WhoSampled, AudioTag.info, WatZatSong, etc., which can help you identify songs in different ways. But I like mobile applications, like Shazam, Soundhound, etc., as they are handy and can be accessed on the fly.
